WHY CHOOSE ORGANIC?
We always hear the word ‘organic’ in our day today life, but we really know about organic? What is organic? Why we choose organic? Is organic food really healthier than non-organic food these are some questions come in our mind when we shop for organic food, so to find answers to our question we need to know how these organic food come to us.
Organic food comes to us from organic farms, the farmers who are growing organic food without the use of chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides or herbicides, insecticides, antibiotics or genetically modified organisms.
Organic food sales are growing day by day and certified organic producing farms in India are increasing very rapidly, many state governments are trying to convert the whole state as organic producing state by restricting chemicals and fertilizers. Our government is taking a lot of initiatives to promote organic farming in India.
There have been a lot of researches done on organic farming in India, we are again going to our roots of farming, and there are a lot of informational available why to choose organic food against non-organic food. Here are some points that influence to choose organic food.
1. Organic food is safe.
Certified, authentic and 100% organic food is safe for human body, a lot of studies show that organic food is much better than non organic food, if you want to understand more about organic food just analysis lifestyle of our forefathers, they were less exposure to chemicals, they were very hardworking and healthier, this is because all they had is organic food which was very safe and healthy. Organic food does not contain any harmful chemicals and pesticide while non-organic food is grown with the help of fertilizers and chemicals to get more yield, which is very harmful for humans, animals and our ecosystem.
2. Organic food is more nutritious and healthy
Many studies have shown that an organic diet increases the consumption of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids in our body, organic foods generally contain higher levels of micronutrients, such as vitamin C, zinc and iron. Organic farming does not rely on chemical pesticide sprays to protect themselves from insects and diseases. Instead, they produce their own natural protective compounds which when we consume it increases nutrients and antioxidants in our body.
3. Organic food increase fertility.
Now a day’s many couples are facing a common problem of infertility in India and when we visit doctor they tell you about the treatments not the cause of the problem. Studies shows that reason for infertility in couples is because of consumption of non organic food as it is grown by GMO seeds, very high use of pesticides, herbicides they are genetically modified and resistant to diseases. Long time use of such food affects fertility in humans.
4. Organic food reduces Diseases.
Pesticides and chemicals have been linked to infertility problems in males and females and birth defects, neurological and behavioural problems, disrupted hormone function, autism, and cancer. All non organic food products contain artificial food additives, this includes artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring, flavoring and monosodium glutamate (MSG). These all lead to many diseases in humans.
5. No antibiotics and drugs through animal products
You would be very surprise to know that Animals raised in farm are given a lot of antibiotics, drugs and even hormonal infections, these all directly passed into meat and dairy products and finally to our body, farmers have been giving sex hormones and growth hormones to cattle to artificially increase the amount of meat and milk the cattle, it is perhaps one of the most serious public health problems. While animals raised naturally in free range were not given any such drugs.

As you know that organic food does not have any harmful chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers, herbicides, GMO seeds, contains artificial food additives, this includes artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring, flavouring and monosodium glutamate (MSG), organic food is natural and does not have any such chemicals which are harmful for humans.
7. Organic food is GMO free
Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are contaminating our food supply at an alarming rate, in India seed producing companies are developing hybrid seeds and farmers are growing that seeds in the farms to get the high production, GMO foods do not have any label in India, so we don’t know which is good for us and which is not. Because organically grown food cannot be genetically modified in any way, choosing organic is the only way to be safe.
8. It keeps our water clean.
If we use chemicals and pesticides in the farms, it will remain on the plant and slowly dissolve with the soil and when the rainy season comes all the chemicals and pesticides mixed with the rain water and finally mixed in the lack, river and ponds resulting in water pollution, but if we do organic farming our water resources remain clean.
9. Protect soil and reduce pollution in ecosystem.
Organic farming not permits the use of toxic chemicals and fertilizers in farming and requires responsible management with the nature which results in healthy soil and biodiversity. Organic farming prevents our ecosystem. Wildlife, insects, frogs, birds, and soil organisms without interference and slowly it will result in a healthy ecosystem.
10. It protects animal species.
Agricultural chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers are contaminating our land poisoning water supplies, and destroying the value of fertile land, which is resulting in less productivity from present farm land. and we need more land for framing for that we need to cut forest to develop new land which is resulting in vanishing endangered species of animals, many species of birds, frogs, insects, reptiles were already vanish from this earth because of modern ways of farming.
